Why should I seal?

Oxidization from the sun, rain, snow, freeze and thaw cycles all play their part in deteriorating the life a concrete driveway. Most importantly, salts, de-icing chemicals, and the increasing use of magnesium chloride by street and highway departments are very destructive chemicals to concrete. These elements contribute to accelerated deterioration of your surfaces. Without treatment, a concrete driveway will spall, flake and crack and generally deteriorate. Sealing has proven to significantly slow this process and dramatically extend the life of exterior surfaces. Sealing will give your exterior surfaces a beautiful, new, and rejuvenated look!

The benefits include:

  • Protection against water, chemicals, freeze/thaw damage, UV damage, salts and de-icing chemicals, staining, hot tire marks, and colour fading
  • Increased longevity.
  • Increases curb appeal.
  • Added value to your home.
  • Reduced spalling, flaking, cracking, abrasion, and wear
  • Enriched colour intensity.
  • Added sheen and depth.
  • Easier cleaning and maintenance due to dirt, oil, grease, chemicals, de-icing salts and other stains remaining on the surface of the sealer.

What happens if I don't seal my concrete?

Concrete is a porous material that readily absorbs liquids. In our cold climates, the expansion of frozen liquids can destroy the surface of unsealed concrete. Oil, salt, fertilizer, and other household chemicals can discolour and damage unsealed concrete.

How much does sealing my driveway cost?

Concrete sealing costs are determined by strict calculated method and not just a simple square foot price. The truth is, there are many variables that determine concrete sealing cost:

  • First and foremost, how big or small is the surface? How many square feet do you have?
  • How much cleaning and preparation is involved? Is the surface dirty? Are the edges overgrown with grass or weeds?
  • How many oil spots are there that need to be cleaned and primed?
  • How much hand work is involved when applying the sealer?
  • How much sealer is needed? When was the last time it was sealed?

Our friendly staff will come to assess the surface and provide you with an in-depth description of the scope of work, in order to give an accurate quote at no charge.

How will my sealed surface look?

Solvent-based acrylic resin sealers provide significant colour enhancement and give concrete a “like-new” finish.

How is the sealer applied?

Depending on the surface, sealer is applied with a spray and/or roll technique. The sealer is applied through a commercial sprayer to ensure even coating down into joints and crevices followed by a back roll to ensure consistency and uniform finish.

Will sealer make my surface slippery?

Surfaces can become slippery when wet, especially stamped and standard concretes. To combat this issue, our exclusive A.D.S. sealer contains an additive called Shark Grip. This ensures traction in all weather conditions.

When can I walk/drive on my sealed surface?

Foot traffic is typically 30 minutes (depending on weather conditions). We recommend 24 hours to ensure proper curing prior to vehicle traffic.

How can I maintain my sealed surface through the winter months?

We highly discourage the use of salts and recommend using sand through the winter months. Sand will add additional traction on icy surfaces, similar to salts, while avoiding the damages salts cause. Come spring, a light rinse of the driveway is all you need to remove the sand.
